Intro: What the hell is “the ping!”???
There are A LOT of comic book news sites that a person can go to for news, many of them overlap with the info that they toss out there on the web.
I always thought it would be cool if there was a ONE STOP sort of place where I could go and just sort of get a good idea of what was going on in the world of comic book news. (That was sort of the idea behind “The Daily Bugle” podcast that I was doing for a bit.)
Because I ping (read) all lots of the comic book news site I thought that every now and then I’d write up a summery of some cool stories that I find on them and post it here.
So, in short “The Ping!” is just the results of a news crawl that I do.
Will I do this every day? Hell no. I just don’t have the time. But, I will try to do it often (at least for a bit… until I get sick of doing it.) If people email me and tell me to keep doing it, or to do it more often that will keep it going longer and more frequently.
Enjoy.

1. Brian Wood reports that his comic The Couriers has been optioned for a film. I’m really happy to hear this. Brian is one of the best writers working in comics today, and as far as I know this would be the first of his books that is made into a film. Nobody deserves this more.

2. Marvel Comics is reporting that The Punisher kills a super-person in Punisher: War Journal #4 which Im not reading due to lack of money right now so I have no idea if it is a big deal or not. (If anyone wants to tell me shoot me an email.
CBR has a write up w/ a preview of this issue if you really want more info
3. Marvel is also premiering a new Invincible Iron Man clip from the forth coming animated project every day from January 29 to February 2! All I know is if this is as bad as the The Ultimate Avengers animated movie than… well I’ll be pissed.
4. Newsarama had a cool question / answer session with Tom Brevoort (for hose who are not super nerds with WAY to much time on their hands: Brevoort is the editor of New Avengers, Civil War, and Fantastic Four.)
5. Artist Roy (if you don’t know his work you should) Osborne noticed that a picture that he did of the Inhuman Blackbolt is now the second most popular picture of BlackBolt via google image search

If you like that image be sure to check out Roy’s portfolio page for more.
You can also read a DIGITAL COMIC over at royosborne.net that Roy both wrote and drew. It is a really fun read.
6. Warren Ellis pointed to a WEB COMICcalled LA Muse there is only one page of it online at this point, but if Ellis pointed to it chances are that it will turn out to be interesting.
7. Cartoonist Benjamin Roman is going to be doing a webcomic that looks kind of interesting soon. I’ll try to remember to check it out.

8. Newsarama has this post that might give a artist a very big opertunity.
Avatar Press is looking for artists for a number of projects over the coming year, including Alan Moore and Warren Ellis comics.
9. For those of you who are into Heroclix, Newsarama reported…
WizKids has announced a special Heroclix Civil War tournament event, which retailers can hold in February either separately or in conjunction with other previously scheduled HeroClix events
10. I blogged about how Katie Holmes is not goin to be in the next Batman movie. This made me happy because though I really REALLY liked Batman Begins I did not like Batman going after a gril… that just did not sit right with me. I was thinking they would get rid of “the girl” part period, but this shows that was just wishful thinking on my part.
11. For those who really want to get a sneak peak at some Spider-Man in the black outfit, CBR has a cool write up of Spider-Man Family w/ preview art. I think it is worth a read / look.
Variety confirmed that Holmes had officially dropped out to join Mad Money with Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah. Now, the rumor mill is at full tilt about Rachel McAdams being the front-runner to replace Holmes as ‘the girl’ in the film.
12. I really think that the stuff that CBR is a good comic book news site stories like this are why
The portrayal of Native Americans in American popular media has undergone a number of changes over the past several hundred years. With that in mind, CBR News interviewed eight professionals in and around the comics industry to learn more about their perspectives on the portrayal of Native Americans in comics, past and present.
