How to get free comics, a “life hack” by Neil Gorman.

Hello Comic book readers & podcast listeners,

I’m a reader of the very VERY popular weblog life hacker (and I think that you should be too) because it is a great little site for finding out cool things I can do to make life more easy and enjoyable.

Also, not that long ago I wrote a blog post that talked about one thing (a life hack) that I did when I had a burning desire to read some new comics but I just did not have any money to buy new comics.

I got some good email feedback from that little post and I have decided that I was going to do a show that talks about what I call the The Comic Geek “I ‘aint got no money” Blues and how to deal with said blues…. or if your more into lifehacker speak “free comic book hacks”

Hack 1: barrow books from your friends.
Comic book raders, more often than not, know other comic book readers. Barrowing their stuff is a very simple thing that you can do, and it will not cost you any moeny.

Of course you should always be willing to loan out your stuff to the people who loan you things as well.

Hack 2: re-reading old stuff.
Again, this might seem like a no brainer… but TONS of comic book readers read their books one time then bag and board them and lock them away in a long box never again to see the light of day. What the hell is with that?

I’m someone who is constantly re-reading something, I love picking up books that I loved when I was younger and reading them again. Recenly I did this with a run of early 90’s X-Men books.

Hack 3: read web coimcs.
Lots of comic book readers seem to look down on web comics, maybe because there is no shortage of bad web comics out there. However, there are also a hell of a lot of really good ones as well.

Some web comics that I really dig are…

Hack 4: downloading comics.
I did a show on how to download comics there a a bnuch of different apps you can use to do this.

Of course you should never download stuff that is still in print :)

Hack 5: Wikipedia.
This one is sort of strange…

When I was a kid I use to love reading the “Whos who” books that gave information on every character in the DC universe. Don’t know whey I found that sort of thing interesting, but I did.

Now I find that it is kind of fun to to to Wikipedia and do searches for different coimc book characters and read up on them.

So when you need something to read as your comics download in your BitTorrent client, there you go.
