Ellis is brilliant.

So a few days ago Warren Ellis sent this out via his email list…

” It’s interesting to
watch Marvel and DC’s different
strategies for growing the market
for their superhero comics. Marvel
wants new readers. DC wants the
old readers back. Neither is going
to work effectively without more
comics stores.”

Mr. Ellis, that is brilliant.

Stores…? At first I thought I read it as “stories” which I was like “Hell yes!” but with stores… that makes me wonder if Ellis is contemplating the big boys going into the retail business themselves. That would certainly be interesting - mostly because of this: Would you (as a comic reader) go into a store that only sold EITHER Marvel OR DC? Or would you go where you could get both? Obviously we don’t want to go multiple places… so that begs the question - would a DC store carry Marvel comics…?

I don’t think I would shop at a regular store that sold just Marvel or just DC. However I would shop at a online store taht sold digital copies of comics (IE: an iTunes for comics). Even is such a store only sold comics from one of the big two (hell I’d shop there even if it only sold comics form one of the smaller publishers like Top Shelf, Dark Horse, or Oni etc.)
