Comic Book News: Yashitaka Amano — “Hero”

Hey people,

In my own going attempt to make the comicology blog more popular (and search engine friendly) I’m making it a point to write a blog post at least one time per week… If I can do more than that I will.

Today I want to star by talking about The artist Yoshitaka Amano who many people will know from the best from his work on character design for the Final Fantasy characters, and the book “The Dream Hunters” that he illustrated for Neil Gaiman.

(sidenote: Here is a amazon.com link to Yoshitaka Amano’s books for anyone who might be interested in buying some of his stuff.)

Today I read a great interview with Amano over at CBR where he talks about a new seires that he not only drew, but also wrote him self.

The series will be called “Hero” and is going to be a mythic story. The interview really got me interested in this book , but I think the part that has me really excited is this

CBR: What do you hope readers will get from the book?

Amano: “Hero” is not some super hero with super powers. There’s a hero in all of you, in your heart.

When I read that it really reminded me of one of the main reasons that I have read comic books for so long. They are a style of story telling, or modern myth, that more than any other can inspire me to be more of a hero. I know that might sound lame but I don’t give a damn. That is how I feel. For real.

Another great thing about this book is that it is being published by Boom Studios who thus far have been creating IMHO the best new and original comic books today. Seeings Boom’s name attached to this book was the thing that make me KNOW that I am going to spend my money on it.
