Comicology Podcast
Vol. 2 – Issue 1
By: Neil Gorman
I’ve been off both the comic book, and podcasting / new media radar for some time now.
This is my attempt to throw myself back into the Comicology Podcast, which back in the day was one of my labors of love.
This show has less than zero production done to it. I had no plan at all. I just sat down in front of my mic hit record and started to talk. The end result (as I’m sure you can tell) is not very good. The reason I did this was that I think / hope / believe that getting something started is the hard part. After I get stared I can improve… but if I don’t start there will be nothing to improve on. I hope that makes sense.
Anyway.
The topic of the podcast was how DC Comics screws up the follow through on their big events. What do I mean by that? DC will make a big event every year, which totally hits the DCU like a wrecking ball. I have no problem with that, comics are fantastical stories where that sort of thing can happen. However, I hate that there is no follow through! After the wrecking ball knocks down the DCU, there is a new happy shinny fucking DCU in its place after only a month. What the hell is up with that?
What I want to see DC do is show me (the reader) the rebuilding process. When something truly devastating happens it takes time to…
1. Clean up the mess.
2. Recover from the devastation… cope with the grief of lost loved ones.
3. Rebuild.
I believe that one of the few places where DC gets this right is in the Batman books. When something big happens in that section of the DCU it sticks.
1. The death of Jason Todd
2. The cataclysm
3. The destruction of Blüdhaven
(side note: I know that people are going to say “They are brining Bruce back after only a little bit.” I know, I know, I know. I think that is STUPID too. Nonetheless, before that I think it is safe to say that the Batman section of the DCU had some really good follow through with their big events.)
That should do it for show notes. I hope you enjoy the show. Tell a friend about it if you do.
If you hate it you can send me some hate mail.
